ECTS » Competence Profiles / Program-specific Learning outcomes academic year 2015-2016

Bachelor of Facility Management HDE (Ghent)

Justification and orientation

The actualization of the competence profile was imperative. Inspired by the criteria of the Flemish qualification structure level 6 (bachelor's degree), the core team of the Facility Management degree has proactively developed an up-to-date learning outcome framework, under the guidance of the director, the head of the degree and the local staff member of the Education and Quality Department. The program-specific learning outcome framework was approved by the core team on 10 September 2013. On 22 October 2013 it was presented and approved by the advisory council. The Facility Management's students council approved the framework on 22 May 2013. The framework was presented to the academic board at the end of May 2013. The program-specific learning outcome framework formulates the learning outcomes which students have to achieve at the end of their studies in order to be able to enter the field of action as beginning professionals. The learning outcomes are further crystallized into aims/objectives. In order to write out the program-specific learning outcome framework, we have made use of a didactic concept based on the FM competence profiles in the Netherlands, Switzerland and Germany. Starting-point of these profiles were the LOOFD- competence profile and the BBA-standards. The aim of the FM degree is to prepare graduates, by means of their learning outcomes, to become widely educated and multidisciplinary professionals and to help students develop extensive problem-solving and organizational skills. Furthermore, the student is urged to lifelong learning and creative thinking.

Structure

The program-specific learning outcome framework consists of 10 learning outcomes, based on a didactic concept of horizontal and vertical learning curves. Within the learning outcomes, attention is focused first and foremost on the horizontal learning curves, after which emphasis is placed on the multidisciplinary assignments which the facility coordinator masters as a beginning professional. For each learning outcome core aims have been formulated on 3 different competence levels. From the talent-development point of view, the vertical learning curves are reflected during the competence development.
